Jeongwoo Hwang

Jeongwoo completed his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Konkuk University, South Korea, in 2014. He received his M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Hanyang University, South Korea, in 2016, with a focus on coastal engineering and hydraulics. He later earned his doctoral degree at City College of the City University of New York in 2021, focusing on the natural and human-impacted hydrologic systems and their relations with climate variability, basin conditions, and hydrometeorological extremes. His primary research interest is integrating the science of hydroclimatology and assessing the contemporary and future water systems using various physical and statistical modeling techniques, including machine learning algorithms and modern artificial intelligence methods.

Research Areas:  Hydrological Systems Analysis, Water Risk Management and Sustainability, Hydrometeorological Extremes and Adaptation, Water Balance Modeling, Machine Learning and AI applications for Water and Climate Systems.

Current Project: Nonlinear and machine learning methods for the season to decade long forecasting of climate over the United States.
