Columbia Water Center

The Water Challenge

The United Nations has cited inadequate water-related data as a major problem that must be addressed before regional or global solutions to water issues can be effectively developed. Better management of competing demands and reversing the trends of water scarcity require a systematic understanding of the information needs, methods or investments, and policy reforms that would address global and regional water crises.

The Columbia Water Center conducts research in some of the most challenging settings in the world. We consider roles for both the private and public sectors to create mechanisms that promote water use efficiency in agriculture and industry, while increasing incomes and reducing conflicts among water users and nations

Working with a variety of partners around the world, the Columbia Water Center is developing and implementing novel strategies for climate risk mitigation and adaptation, and improving water-energy-food economics for individuals, industries and regions.
