Understanding the Relationship between Climate and Drought Indices
This Aquanaut research focused on trying to understand if there is any relationship between large-scale climate indicators and NDI (Normalized Deficit Index) for different areas in the United States. The analysis included: conducting Spearman, Kendall, and Pearson statistical analyses between the climate data and NDI to look for possible relationships and using a principal component analysis to help investigate this relationship. For now, the focus is on the state of Missouri in the U.S. midwest. Preliminary research is showing that certain climate indicators are better at predicting water stress than others and plans to continue testing which predictors are best for different regions are being developed.
